My December Writing Challenge: Week Two Update
So here we are — week two of the writing challenge, and I’m not going to lie, this week was much harder than week one.
Day 8
Day 8 was actually harder for me than the previous days. Even my so-called worst day from last week (Day 4) felt easier than this. I had a lot of filler scenes and shorter chapters, which made it harder to reach my daily word goal, let alone surpass it.
I’m also starting to think about what I’m going to work on next, because I’m getting close to finishing my current story — and that’s low-key stressing me out. Choosing the next project feels harder than actually writing. I still have so many drafts sitting on Wattpad that I need to unload, and honestly? Just seeing all of them makes me panic a little. But we’ll see what happens.
Day 9
Day 9 was a strong day writing-wise, but mentally? I’m getting bored. I’m not done with the story yet, but I’m already thinking ahead, which probably isn’t helping.
I don’t know what story to work on next. I have a few options:
- a story I started last month
- another one I started around the same time
- or maybe finishing a one-shot during the challenge
The problem is… choosing. I hate choosing. Everything sounds good and bad at the same time.
Day 10
I came out stronger than I expected on Day 10, but I noticed something kind of concerning: I didn’t want to write anymore. Not because I couldn’t — but because I didn’t know what to write.
That’s when it really hit me that I need to offload the stories I’m not working on anymore. Having too many active drafts makes me feel confused, unfocused, and honestly a bit overwhelmed.
Day 11
Day 11 was, without a doubt, my weakest day so far. I just didn’t have the desire to write. At all.
I’m incredibly glad I wrote so much earlier in the challenge, because otherwise I’d be in real trouble. Now I know I’ll have to catch up over the weekend — which is not ideal, because I also need to buy Christmas presents and do normal human things. So… we’ll see.
Day 12
Day 12 was GLORIOUS.
I wrote 2,396 words. My daily target was 1,600, so not only did I hit it — I also caught up from Day 11. I still have some catching up to do overall, but this day really showed me something important:
When you’re stuck, the trick is to switch projects. Put the thing you’re forcing on pause and work on something else instead.
Day 13
Day 13 was the weekend, and I already knew it was going to be busy. Dentist appointment, Christmas shopping, life stuff. I fully expected that I might not write at all.
But — update — I actually did write. Around 1,200 words in less than an hour and a half. It was still hard, but easier than expected because one of the projects I worked on is a rewrite of another story.
I’m still struggling with my main project, though. I think I’ll be able to finish it by the end of this week. If not, then definitely by the end of the challenge.
Another update: I still didn’t hit my full word goal — but I wrote a lot, and honestly, I’ll take it.
Day 14
I woke up super early on Day 14 and went to a coffee shop for a productivity session. At that point, I wasn’t even sure if I’d write anything at all.
I kept asking myself:
Can I hit today’s goal and catch up from Days 11 and 13?
Short answer: probably not.
I really regret not hitting my word goal on Day 13, but I’m still hopeful that I’ll be able to catch up next week — especially with the holidays coming.
Update: I did hit my word goal for Day 14 and even went slightly above it.
That said, I still have a lot to catch up on next week, and I’m still struggling to finish the story I want to finish.
Final Thoughts for Week Two
Week two really showed me that writing challenges aren’t just about discipline — they’re about decision fatigue, mental clutter, and knowing when to switch gears instead of forcing yourself.
I’m behind. I’m tired. I’m still struggling.
But I’m also still writing — and that counts for something.
Let’s see what week three brings.
